PURE Co-op President Tim Allen (right), who was selected by fellow board members to serve a second term in this capacity, chats with Steve Magness of Professional Energy Management (PEM) during the opening reception of the 2009 annual meeting.
With so many long-term goals beginning to take shape, requiring stability and familiarity among the PURE leadership, the Nominating Committee of the PURE Co-op presented its slate of officers to serve in 2010, which was unanimously accepted by fellow board members at the yearend meeting.
Two officers will serve a second year in their current capacity – President Tim Allen and Vice President Davis Cosey – while Dennis Combs will also serve as an officer for another year, yet as Treasurer for 2010. Mac Campbell will provide leadership as Treasurer. Other board members of the PURE Co-op for 2010 include: Johnny Fair, Jeremy Holmes, and Clayton Hooks from District 1; Frank McNeill, Jr. (Past President) and Lynn Keffer, joining Mac Campbell in District 2; Buck Grist and David Pitts, along with Davis Cosey in District 3; Buddy Lisle and Craig Lynch, joining Dennis Combs from District 4; and Larry Jones and James Frank Bundrant, along with Tim Allen in District 5.
Committee chairs for this year include: Tim Allen chairing the Executive Committee, Dennis Combs – Finance, Mac Campbell – Marketing, Johnny Fair – Nominating and Back Office, Buddy Lisle – Personnel, Jeremy Holmes – Planning, and Davis Cosey – Supply.
During his President’s Address at the annual shareholders meeting in Nashville this past November, Tim Allen noted that the oil business has been trying and challenging the last few years. Yet, the current changes in market conditions are similar to stressful condition of years past, and will likewise require the very best in terms of ingenuity and dedication among members in order for the Co-op to thrive.
President Allen referenced the challenges of the past that have been met head on by jobbers, such as the oil embargo of 70’s, increased regulations of the 80’s and 90’s, the Gulf War, the terrorist attacks of 9/11, hurricanes and interruptions to production and supply, as well as rising oil and gas prices and enormous credit card fees. Still, the Co-op President shared his faith in his fellow PURE oil jobbers that they too would survive these current difficult times and harshest economic conditions.
“The winds of change are blowing strong at PURE, and I am proud to be a part of it,” says Allen, who gave the lion’s share of credit to previous boards and the administration of Past President Frank McNeill, who set the Co-op on the course of becoming its own oil company, but without the taxing programs and bureaucracy of the majors.
The past year began with the Co-op entering into an agreement with Professional Energy Management (PEM) to assist with this transformation into an independent oil company. With that plan of attack in hand, the Co-op began marketing the PURE brand in states and areas of the country outside of the original Southeastern U.S. “And the industry has taken notice,” adds Allen.
Entering 2010, the President notes that the Co-op has made a lot of progress on the major issues facing the membership this year – supply, accounting, credit, and marketing, among others – all necessary phases for the startup of this new adventure and the continual, profitable evolution of the PURE brand.
